Leiston Old Abbey Residential Home in Suffolk provides residential care for up to 40 older people, younger adults and people living with dementia. The CQC rated the service inadequate overall and has placed it in special measures, having found breaches relating to safe care, infection control, staff training and governance. Inspectors found the home was not clean and hygienic throughout, care plans were not kept up to date, and staffing levels did not properly account for the support people needed with social activity.

Staff were found to be kind and caring, and people spoke well of the food, but inspectors said shortfalls meant a consistently caring service was not being delivered. Activities were provided only when staff had time, and some people said they had to wait for help. The provider has been asked for an action plan to address the concerns found.
