Henshaws Specialist College

Henshaws Specialist College provides residential accommodation and further education for young people aged 16 to 25 with physical or learning disabilities or autism. At inspection, 34 young people lived in four residential houses, with a further 14 receiving healthcare as day students. The college delivers personalised care alongside educational support, with young people participating in activities designed to build confidence, increase self-esteem and develop independence skills.

Inspectors found the service delivered highly person-centred support with careful pre-admission assessments ensuring young people's care, healthcare and behaviour needs were fully understood. Feedback from relatives was entirely positive, with families praising staff for their work in developing independence and preparing young people for life in society. Young people experienced a range of fun activities and experiences that gave them a genuine sense of achievement.
