Furze Hill House

Furze Hill House provides personal and nursing care to 40 people aged 65 and over, including those living with dementia. At inspection, 27 residents were living at the service. Staff demonstrated good infection prevention and control practices, including correct use of personal protective equipment. The home provided COVID-19 information in accessible formats using pictures to aid understanding and reduce anxiety. An activity lead developed a monthly newsletter to reduce social isolation, and staff used social media to keep families updated during visiting restrictions.

Residents reported feeling safe and well looked after, praising the support staff provided during lockdown. Relatives spoke highly of the care and communication arrangements. The service investigated accidents and incidents appropriately, sharing lessons learned with staff to prevent recurrence. Following a coroner's inquest, changes to practice and procedures were implemented to maintain safety. Inspectors identified some improvements needed in recording fluid intake, weight monitoring, and turn charts, which the registered manager committed to addressing.
