Franklin Avenue

Franklin Avenue is a care home providing accommodation and support to six people with learning disabilities and/or autism. The service implemented comprehensive infection control procedures during the COVID-19 outbreak, with staff trained and observed using Personal Protective Equipment appropriately. Visitors were required to provide proof of negative lateral flow tests and have their temperature checked, while all professionals and contractors demonstrated full vaccination status. The registered manager developed clear one-page guidelines to help staff, visitors and contractors understand and comply with safety measures.

The home supported people to adapt to pandemic precautions in creative ways. Staff helped residents understand the need for PPE and social distancing, and used games and fun activities to reduce any anxiety about staff wearing protective equipment. The service maintained compliance with current guidance on visiting arrangements both during and outside of outbreak periods.
