About Fernery House

Fernery House is a residential care home in Somerset for people with a learning disability and autistic people. Details of the most recent CQC assessment are set out below.

Fernery House is a residential care home providing support for up to 7 people with a learning disability and autistic people, with 6 people living there at the time of assessment. The CQC found the service remained in breach of several regulations, including safe care, staffing, consent and mental capacity practice, and governance, with a further breach identified around person centred care. Environmental safety, recruitment checks and record keeping all needed urgent attention.

Despite this, relatives spoke positively, describing a calm, caring home where people were supported to make choices, take part in activities and stay connected with family. Staff were seen as kind and knowledgeable, though reliance on agency workers and frequent management changes affected consistency. Inspectors concluded improvements had not been sufficiently sustained.
