Creative Support - The Glade

The Glade is a residential care home supporting eight people who are autistic, living with dementia or learning disabilities. The service provides personalised bedrooms alongside shared communal areas including a kitchen, bathrooms, living rooms and a garden.

Inspectors found that people were not always supported in line with their preferences regarding social activities and interests. Some residents were left for extended periods without interaction with staff or other people, creating risks of isolation and boredom. Staff did not consistently describe people with dignity and respect, and opportunities for independence were being missed. While risk assessments had been completed to guide safe support, these were not always followed in practice. Recent significant changes to the staffing team had impacted residents' experiences at the service.

Concerns were identified regarding infection control, with clinical waste bins stored inappropriately. Additionally, people were not always supported to have maximum choice and control over their lives, and staff did not consistently support them in the least restrictive way possible or in their best interests. The service was recommended to review its mental capacity assessments and best interest decisions to ensure compliance with best practice guidance.
