The registered manager introduced clear visiting protocols to keep people safe while maintaining contact with family and friends. Staff sourced pictorial guidance from the NHS to help people understand the pandemic, and people kept in touch through video and telephone calls.

The home supported people to continue enjoying activities, purchasing additional art and craft equipment for projects like developing a large snakes and ladders board, and providing interactive games using electronic tablets. Staff maintained plentiful supplies of personal protective equipment with daily provider contact to monitor stock levels. The environment was kept clean through regular touch point cleaning and deep cleans to reduce cross transmission risk.

A 'bubble' system was developed to provide support in the event of an outbreak, and infection control policies were regularly reviewed with a winter plan implemented based on lessons learned.
