Casterbridge Lodge

Casterbridge Lodge provides personal care and accommodation to up to 35 older people in a detached building in Winterbourne Steepleton, Dorset. At the time of inspection, 29 people were using the service. Residents and relatives spoke positively about the home, with comments including "The staff are very friendly" and "The guys at Casterbridge have been absolutely amazing. They're brilliant people."

Staff deployment needed improvement to ensure there were enough staff with appropriate skills to meet everyone's needs, though improvements were made during the inspection. While staff had completed mandatory training, not all had received robust induction or had their competency assessed. Recruitment processes needed strengthening to ensure employment gaps were properly explored and references verified. The home regularly reviewed risks to people using the service.
