Brunel House

Brunel House provides nursing and personal care to 40 people aged 65 and over, with capacity for up to 65 residents across three floors. One floor specialises in care for people living with dementia. However, inspectors found insufficient staffing levels to meet people's assessed needs. Residents, relatives, staff and visiting professionals reported not having enough staff at times, which affected the timeliness of care and prevented staff from providing person-centred support. Staff described feeling rushed when delivering care.

Risk management was inconsistent throughout the service. Actions were not reliably taken following incidents to prevent similar occurrences, and risks were not always effectively assessed and managed. The management team lacked effective quality assurance systems to identify and address shortfalls. Regular checks and audits necessary for proper oversight had not been completed, meaning the systems failed to identify the problems found during inspection.
