Brookfield Residential Home

Brookfield Residential Home provides personal care to up to 29 older people, including those living with dementia. At inspection, 25 people were using the service. While staff knew people well and enough staff were deployed to keep people safe, several concerns were identified. Some risks to people's health and safety were not fully assessed, and management plans were not always up to date or consistent. The building had safety and maintenance issues, including fire-related risks. Medicines were not appropriately managed, and staff skills varied across the home.

The service did not always support people to have maximum choice and control over their lives, or support them in the least restrictive way possible. Mental capacity assessments had not been completed in line with relevant legislation. Visiting restrictions remained in place despite government guidance being withdrawn, and the service had not demonstrated these restrictions were risk assessed according to people's needs and best interests. Healthcare professionals' advice regarding food and drink was not always sought or incorporated into care plans.
