Birkdale Residential Home

Birkdale Residential Home accommodates up to 29 people requiring personal care, with 26 residents at the time of inspection, some living with dementia. The service presented significant safety concerns. People were at risk of harm from preventable injury due to inadequately identified and mitigated risks. Infection prevention and control practices were not being followed properly, exposing residents to infectious illness.

The physical environment posed additional challenges for maintaining hygiene standards. Equipment, fixtures and fittings were damaged, rusted or unprotected, which undermined effective cleaning. Food storage practices were unsafe, further compromising residents' wellbeing and health protection.
