Birkdale Residential Home

Birkdale Residential Home is a care home providing residential support to older people, including those living with dementia. This assessment followed up on earlier warning notices, and while some progress had been made, inspectors found the provider remained in breach of regulations covering safe care and governance. Medicines were not always managed safely, with gaps in records and storage checks, and there was insufficient oversight to ensure lessons were learned from incidents.

Despite this, staff were found to be caring and knowledgeable about people's needs, and the home was clean, well maintained and adequately staffed. Feedback from residents, relatives and external professionals was largely positive, praising kindness and good communication. Overall, the CQC rated Birkdale as Requires Improvement.
