Birchmere House

Birchmere House in Solihull is a residential care home providing personal and nursing care across three floors, supporting people with dementia, mental health needs, physical disabilities and sensory impairments. The CQC rated the home Requires Improvement overall, citing breaches relating to safe care and treatment and to governance, with delayed call bell responses, heavy agency staff use and insufficient night staffing.

Inspectors found permanent staff knew people well and were mostly warm and compassionate, and most people felt involved in decisions about their care. However, experiences with agency staff were inconsistent, personal care was not always delivered at preferred times, and medicines were not always given at the specified times. A new manager and deputy had recently started in post.
