Birchmere House

Birchmere House in Solihull is a residential care home providing personal and nursing care across three floors, supporting people living with dementia, mental health needs, physical disabilities and sensory impairments. At the time of assessment 61 people lived there. The CQC rated the home Requires Improvement overall, finding breaches relating to safe care and treatment and to governance, with delayed call bell responses, heavy reliance on agency staff and insufficient night staffing.

Despite this, inspectors found permanent staff to be warm, compassionate and knowledgeable about people's needs, with people's dietary requirements well understood and regular reviews of care. A new manager and deputy had recently been appointed. Some residents felt unsettled by inconsistent agency staff and reported personal care not always delivered at preferred times.
