Birch Tree Manor

Birch Tree Manor is a care home providing accommodation, nursing and personal care for up to 62 older people, some living with dementia. At the time of inspection, 57 people were living at the home. Inspectors found that people were not fully protected from the spread of infection, with COVID-19 weekly testing regimes not always carried out in line with government guidance. Parts of the environment were not kept clean and hygienic, and staff did not always wear the correct level of PPE. These matters were addressed during the inspection.

Residents reported being happy with their care and feeling safe at the home. One person said, "Everyone is really nice." Staff spent time chatting with people and supporting them when distressed. People were protected from abuse as staff understood safeguarding procedures and knew how to raise concerns about safety. Residents received their medicines as prescribed, with staff holding clear information about how people preferred to be supported with medication. Staff demonstrated good knowledge of people's health needs, and the provider had sought support from other health professionals to meet people's requirements.
