Barton Lodge

Barton Lodge provides care and accommodation for up to 45 older people who are physically frail or living with dementia. During inspection, the home demonstrated strong infection control practices. Visitors were screened with temperature checks and hand sanitiser before entry, with visits organised by appointment in hourly slots to allow cleaning between visitors. Regular newsletters provided guidance on infection control procedures. The home had created an isolation wing for anyone with confirmed or suspected Covid-19, who were isolated in their rooms for 14 days. Temperature screening and testing of people and staff took place in line with government guidance, and the home was Covid-19 free at the time of inspection.

Staff received external training on infection prevention and control and wore appropriate PPE including facemasks and visors, understanding safe donning and doffing procedures. At-risk staff members were supported to shield during the pandemic. The registered manager moved into the home early in the pandemic to support the team. The provider created an audit tool based on CQC's infection prevention and control inspection framework, completed the audit, and identified actions for improvement, with many already implemented.
