Barkby Road

Barkby Road is a residential care home accommodating up to seven younger adults with learning disabilities and autistic spectrum disorder, with six people currently using the service. The premises have been redecorated with input from residents, creating a more positive environment. Staff have received training in managing challenging situations, including de-escalation techniques and physical intervention as a last resort, ensuring they can respond effectively to people's needs.

The service provides individualised, personalised care with improved medicines management practices ensuring people receive their medications safely. Staff recruitment procedures have been strengthened and records are now properly maintained. However, managers and staff were not always clear about their roles and responsibilities, leading to confusion around notification requirements and personal protective equipment protocols.
