Avocet Trust - 20-22 Middlesex Road

This care home provides personal care for up to 9 people with learning disabilities and/or autism across three adapted buildings. At inspection, seven residents were living at the service. The home is well-integrated into the community, with residents able to access local shops and services. The buildings are spacious with personalised bedrooms, though some decorating work was required in one building. Staff support people to make choices and exercise control over their lives using the least restrictive approach possible. Communication is effective, supported by individual communication passports that help facilitate discussions with residents.

The service has systems and policies in place to support best practice in decision-making and care delivery. Staff receive training in communicating with residents, recognising individual needs and preferences. The registered manager confirmed minor maintenance work was underway at the time of inspection. The provider was advised to strengthen feedback mechanisms from residents and relatives, and to review approaches to medicines management.
