Aston Manor EMI Residential Home

Aston Manor provides nursing and residential care for up to 32 people across ground and first floors in single en-suite bedrooms. At the time of inspection, 26 people were living at the home. Staff received regular supervision and meetings to raise issues and receive feedback. The administration of medicines was managed safely, and there were sufficient numbers of staff to meet people's needs. The recruitment process for new staff was safe.

However, there were gaps in staff refresher training in dementia awareness, safeguarding and the Mental Capacity Act, though some training had been booked to address this. During the inspection, an avoidable accident occurred, though staff responded appropriately. Risk assessments were sufficiently detailed. Staff were not aware of personal emergency evacuation plans, though they could describe appropriate action in the event of a fire. People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives, with staff supporting them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests.
