This nursing home provides personal and nursing care to up to 53 people across three separate units: one for older people living with dementia, one for people with neurological conditions, and one for people with complex care needs. At inspection, 31 people were using the service.
The home's quality assurance systems were not effective and had failed to address significant shortfalls in records and checks. Senior management could not access audits and therefore could not verify that key aspects of service delivery were being delivered safely and effectively. Risk assessments were not consistently in place to guide staff on managing potential risks to people's wellbeing, and some care records were incomplete and not regularly reviewed. There was no audit evidence to demonstrate these records were kept under critical review or checked for quality and relevance. The provider had no demonstrable evidence that staff had received relevant training to meet the specific conditions of people living there.
People were not always supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives, and staff had not always assisted them in the least restrictive way possible. The home's policies and systems did not support this practice. A small number of people had been restricted without a legal framework or appropriate staff training.
