Abney Low Nursing home

Anchorage Nursing Home provides accommodation and nursing care for up to 40 older people, with 23 residents at the time of inspection, including some living with dementia. Inspectors found significant concerns with quality and safety systems. Although internal and external audits had identified areas for improvement, the home had not taken action to address them. There was insufficient management oversight of staff practice and no robust systems to maintain accurate records or ensure secure storage. Care plans did not consistently contain current information about residents' needs or how risks would be managed, and inspectors found no evidence that planned care met people's assessed needs.

Additional concerns included inadequate monitoring of nutrition and hydration, an unsafe environment that was not properly maintained, and unsafe medicine management. Room and fridge temperatures where medicines were stored were not monitored daily, and staff did not act when temperatures fell outside recommended ranges. Best practice guidance for administering medicines, including covert medicines, was not being followed.
