This residential care home accommodates up to 34 people with mental health needs, providing personal care to 29 residents at the time of inspection. However, significant concerns were identified with the management and oversight of the service. The registered manager had not established effective auditing systems, and there was insufficient oversight of day-to-day operations. The service lacked a proper system to record and analyse accidents and incidents, meaning potential patterns or trends could not be monitored or addressed. Risk assessments were not sufficiently detailed, particularly regarding choking hazards, with no clear guidance for staff on appropriate responses. The use of agency staff and new recruits created additional risk, as these staff members may not be familiar with emergency procedures. Staff guidance on managing constipation-related medication and when to seek healthcare professional advice was also inadequate. The home did protect residents from abuse and discrimination, and some risk assessments for mental health deterioration were in place.
