Upton Cottage

Upton Cottage, in North Somerset, is a residential care home for up to 16 adults with learning disabilities. Fourteen people were living there when the CQC inspected, and the service was rated Requires Improvement overall, following up on a previous breach of good governance.

Inspectors found governance systems still failed to pick up shortfalls, including risks with laundry handling, scalding radiators, medicines management and incident recording, and identified a new breach relating to the environment and premises. Staff also needed more specific training. However, people were supported by staff and a registered manager described as kind, caring and approachable, and families and health professionals spoke positively about the care provided.
