The Spires

The Spires is a purpose-built care home accommodating up to 70 people aged 65 and over across two floors, with one floor specialising in dementia care. At the time of inspection, 35 people were residents. Staff knew people well and supported them with choice and control in their lives, using the least restrictive approaches in their best interests. However, medicines were not always administered as prescribed, and records for 'as required' medicines were not consistently completed. Care files lacked up-to-date information that accurately reflected the support people were receiving, though their actual care needs were met. Documentation relating to best interests decisions was often incomplete, and quality assurance processes were ineffective in identifying gaps in care file management and medicines administration.
