Standon House

Standon House accommodates 31 people in a two-storey adapted building, providing residential care without nursing. At inspection, 27 residents lived there, several with dementia. The home has shared communal facilities including lounge and dining areas. Inspectors identified concerns with infection prevention and control procedures not being consistently implemented, and the provider needed to improve systems for identifying and managing environmental risks. While some medicine administration protocols required development, staff who dispensed medications had received proper training and competency assessments, and people received prescribed medicines as intended. The management team reviewed incidents, accidents and near misses to identify trends and improve support practices.

Staff supported residents to make choices about their care in the least restrictive way possible, with policies and systems in place to uphold this practice. People were protected from abuse and ill treatment. The provider and management team were advised to strengthen quality assurance checks to ensure people consistently received good care in a safe environment.
