Rutland House Care Home

Rutland House Care Home provides personal care to up to 20 older people, some living with dementia. At inspection, 15 people were using the service. The home was not working within the principles of the Mental Capacity Act and had not obtained legal authorisations to deprive people of their liberty where required. This meant people were not always supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives, and staff did not always support them in the least restrictive way possible.

Risks to people's safety were not always managed well. One recently admitted person had not had their safety risks assessed, leaving staff without risk management plans to follow. However, staff understood risks to other people's safety and knew what action to take to keep people safe. The provider's governance systems were not entirely effective, as the provider had not identified and addressed these issues through their own audits and checks.
