Halmer Court

This residential care home provides support to up to 61 older adults, including those living with dementia, in a purpose-built setting. At inspection, 22 people were using the service. The home had several areas requiring improvement. Quality assurance systems were not consistently effective and did not ensure regulatory compliance, though the provider was working with the new manager on an action plan to address this. Environmental risks were not being identified and managed safely, and lessons were not always learned from incidents to prevent future risks. Medicine management did not follow best practice, and infection control measures needed strengthening. Following conversations with inspectors, actions were taken to mitigate these risks.

The service did not consistently support people to have maximum choice and control over their lives, and staff did not always use the least restrictive approaches in people's best interests. Policies and systems in place did not adequately support this practice. Staff had not always received up-to-date training and supervisions, though the provider had arranged for training to be scheduled.
