EnhanceAble Space

EnhanceAble Space provides respite care for up to four people with learning disabilities and autistic people, offering day-care services and overnight accommodation. Staff support people to have maximum choice, control and independence, with relatives consistently praising the thorough initial assessments and individually tailored transitions into the service. A social care professional noted that "staff knew service users well, this was supported by transition planning in advance of the service formally commencing," while another health professional observed that staff "treat the individual as an adult and they really get to know the person and not only their needs but what is important to them."

People are supported to pursue their interests, with observations confirming staff respected people's choices around activities throughout the day. The service has demonstrated positive impact through its innovative assessment and transition approach. One example involved a person who experienced episodes of distress and, with staff support, developed confidence to try new things, with a professional noting this young person was able to "realise meaningful, robust and consistent support for the first time in a considerable time."
