Derby Heights Care Home

Derby Heights is a modern purpose-built residential care home in Littleover on the outskirts of Derby with 74 beds. The service specialises in caring for older people, including those living with dementia, mental health conditions, physical disabilities and sensory impairments. At inspection, 67 people were living at the home, which offers spacious accommodation with secluded gardens and patio areas. During a COVID-19 outbreak, the home implemented comprehensive infection control measures including screening, enhanced cleaning schedules with regular disinfection of high-touch areas, and appropriate use of personal protective equipment by staff. People were supported to maintain contact with relatives through video calls, telephone calls and window visits, while essential caregivers and families of those receiving end of life care continued visiting in line with Government guidelines. Staff received training in infection prevention and control with competency checks observed during inspection, and both staff and residents accessed regular COVID-19 testing to enable swift action if symptoms or positive results occurred.
