Date of assessment 25 March to 2 April 2026.Crofton Springs is a ‘care home’ providing personal care and support to older people and people living with dementia. At the time of the assessment, the service was supporting 22 people with their personal care needs.
People were protected and kept safe, and staff received appropriate training and support to develop in their roles and deliver effective care. There were enough staff to meet people’s needs, they worked well with each other and those involved in their care. Recruitment processes were appropriate, and infection risks were well managed.
Staff supported people to stay healthy and well. People received their medicines when they needed them. Staff supported people to understand their care so they could give informed consent.
People were supported to have choice and control over their care and support and to maintain their independence. Information was provided in ways which reflected people’s needs and preferences. People were treated fairly and supported to access care and services when needed. Staff understood people’s rights and how to uphold them.
The service was led by managers who understood people’s needs and promoted an open culture where concerns could be raised and addressed. Staff were supported with their wellbeing. Managers fostered a culture of learning, inclusion and partnership working focused on positive outcomes for people.
Risks to people were not always managed effectively. Care plans were not always complete and did not always use person-centred language. Details about people’s histories, likes, dislikes and preferences were not always recorded in care plans. People were involved in their care plans, although reviews after accidents and incidents did not always occur. The registered manager was responsive to our feedback in these areas and took immediate steps to make improvements.
