Corner Oaks

The following is CQC's published account of its assessment, published 28 March 2025. References to “we” mean CQC. It describes findings at that time.

We completed assessment visits to Corner Oaks on 03 February and 11 February 2025. This is a service for people with a learning disability and autistic people. At the time of our inspection 6 people were living at the service. We identified areas of poor governance and oversight arrangements within the service. The provider was not ensuring audits and quality checks were completed to a good standard, and where risks and areas of improvement were identified, these were not always addressed. The registered manager and provider were not ensuring incidents and events happening within the service were reported to external stakeholders including CQC in line with their regulatory responsibilities. People’s abilities to consent to the use of closed circuit television (CCTV) within communal areas of the service had not been thoroughly assessed, and less restrictive alternatives had not been explored to justify ongoing usage. The decision to use CCTV was not being kept under regular review by the provider in line with their regulatory responsibilities. Overall, people received care from compassionate staff, responsive to their needs and ensuring people led meaningful lives. Staff understood people’s needs and used their skills and expertise to maximise people’s levels of independence. This was the first inspection of the service since they registered. We have identified 2 breaches of the regulations, for consent to care and treatment and good governance. We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. Where CQC have decided to take civil or criminal enforcement action against a provider, we will publish this information on our website after any representations and/ or appeals have been concluded.
