Cockington House

Cockington House is a residential care home in Torquay providing personal care for up to six people with a learning disability and autistic people. This follow-up assessment found the service still requires improvement, with continuing concerns about safety and leadership after earlier breaches relating to safe care and governance.

Inspectors found the environment was not always kept hygienically clean, medicines were not consistently well managed, and people were not always supported with personal hygiene or continence needs. Care plans held good personalised information, but this was not always followed in practice, and people had limited opportunities for meaningful activity, choice or community involvement. Leaders had not ensured staff had the right skills or a shared culture focused on independence and quality of life.
