Carmel Lodge Care Home

Carmel Lodge Care Home provides personal care to up to 36 people aged 65 and over across two floors with adapted facilities. A number of residents live with dementia. At the time of inspection, the home accommodated 32 people. Staff recruitment processes were safe, with appropriate checks undertaken for all temporary staff. Inspectors observed positive and caring interactions between staff and residents, with staff consistently seeking consent before providing care and demonstrating understanding of people's preferences.

However, governance systems to monitor care quality required improvement. Existing monitoring processes failed to identify shortfalls in care recording that placed people at risk of receiving poor care. The registered manager was actively working to address these issues and had implemented measures to improve communication and relationships with families and staff. The home was navigating staffing challenges at the time of inspection, which had affected staff morale and the ability to maintain regular contact with families.
