Burnham

The following is CQC's published account of its assessment, published 27 February 2025. References to “we” mean CQC. It describes findings at that time.

We carried out this responsive assessment between 28 October 2024 and 11 November 2024. We looked at how Burnham assessed and planned for people's care needs, and how they trained and supervised staff to support people according to their needs and preferences. Burnham is a residential care home providing accommodation for persons who require personal care for up to 5 people. The service is registered to provide support to people with learning disabilities and autistic people, older people, younger adults and people with a physical disability. At the time of our assessment there were 5 people with physical disabilities living at the service, some of whom had complex health needs. We spoke with 3 people, 4 relatives, 1 person’s friend and 8 staff during the assessment. The assessment took time as we contacted the care and support staff outside of their working hours to ensure we did not impact on people’s care and support. We made calls to relatives after the site visit, and we reviewed documents and had ongoing discussions with the management team to clarify evidence. We observed care and support in communal areas and reviewed 3 people’s care plans, 3 staff recruitment records as well as general records for the service. These included staff training records, meeting records, policies and procedures and audits. During this assessment we identified 3 breaches of The Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 in relation to risk management, staffing and good governance. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
