About Averlea Residential Home

Averlea Residential Home is a residential care home in Cornwall, providing support to older people, including some living with dementia. The findings below set out the CQC's most recent assessment of the service.

Averlea Residential Home is a small residential care home providing support to up to 14 older people, some living with dementia. The CQC rated the service Requires Improvement overall, having previously been in Special Measures. Improvements were found in premises and medicines management, but inspectors identified a breach relating to consent, with a restrictive practice used without the proper Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards applications, and a repeat breach of good governance due to inconsistent records and audits.

Feedback from residents and families was largely positive, describing a friendly, family feel and good food. However, inspectors found little planned activity, with people often unoccupied, and noted the garden was inaccessible despite residents wanting to use it.
