Ashill Lodge Care Home

Ashill Lodge is a residential care home providing personal and nursing care for up to 35 people, most with a diagnosis of dementia. The home was recently extended with additional communal space and 10 bedrooms with ensuite facilities, along with a passenger lift, chair stair lift, and generous outside space. At the time of inspection, 29 people were using the service.

Staff demonstrated kindness and caring attitudes, though they were not always responsive to individual needs. Most relatives reported positive experiences, though some were dissatisfied. Inspectors identified several safety concerns including unguarded stairs, unattended hot teapots, open chemicals in the laundry room, and a stiff fire door. When staff were busy, supervision was inadequate, creating risks such as people entering others' rooms unsupervised. Daytime staffing levels were sufficient, but night-time numbers were significantly reduced and had not been reviewed in line with people's needs and routines. People were supported to socialise, with breakfast described as a lively affair.
