Alston View Nursing and Residential Home

This nursing and residential home provides personal and nursing care to older people across a purpose-built facility with two floors of bedrooms and communal areas on the ground floor. At inspection, 44 of the home's 50 residents were receiving care.

Inspectors found significant safety concerns. People were exposed to risks that were not appropriately identified, assessed, or managed in a timely way. Specific failings included fire safety arrangements, the use of bed rails, medicines management, and leadership and governance. Poor communication meant essential safety issues were not properly escalated or dealt with effectively. Some aspects of staff recruitment were not completely effective at ensuring staff were suitable to work with vulnerable people, and some essential safety checks had not been completed.
