Whyke Lodge

Whyke Lodge is a residential care home providing personal care to up to 23 older people and people living with dementia. At inspection, 15 people were being cared for in one adapted building. Inspectors found that environmental risk assessments had not always been completed and updated in a timely way to protect people and staff. Quality assurance systems were not in place to analyse patterns of incidents and accidents so staff could learn and improve care. People at the end of their lives did not always experience person-centred and dignified care; some shared rooms with others, which meant their privacy and wishes regarding their care could not be assured. Staff had not consistently assessed people's capacity regarding decisions like bedroom sharing arrangements, and policies did not support maximum choice and control for residents.

Despite these concerns, people told inspectors they felt safe and were comfortable speaking with staff or management about any concerns. Staff had received safeguarding training and demonstrated knowledge about preventing and reporting abuse.
