The Westbourne Care Home

The Westbourne provides personal and nursing care to 45 people across two separate floors with adapted facilities, with capacity for up to 50 residents. The service had recently recruited new staff to achieve full staffing levels and had safely completed recruitment processes. Staff worked within the principles of the Mental Capacity Act and appropriate Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards authorisations were in place where required, though the service had not ensured all conditions attached to one person's authorisation were being met.

However, inspectors found that risk management was not always sufficiently robust, with staff not consistently following identified guidance to manage identified risks safely. Training and induction for staff was not sufficiently effective to support their knowledge and understanding. Systems and processes to maintain oversight of the quality and safety of care were not always effective. The provider was in the process of reviewing current policies and procedures.
