Mount Pleasant House

The following is CQC's published account of its assessment, published 12 August 2026. References to “we” mean CQC. It describes findings at that time.

Date of assessment: 23 July to 27 July 2026.Mount Pleasant House is a residential home providing care and support for up to 19 older people, some of whom may be living with dementia.

The service was no longer in breach of regulations in relation to governance. However, we identified new breaches relating to safe care and treatment and recruitment.An assessment has been undertaken of a service that is used by autistic people or people with a learning disability but is not registered as a specialist service. We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.Systems for the safe management of medicines were not followed. The temperature of the room where medicines were stored had exceeded safe limits on several occasions.Monitoring processes, designed to help ensure risks to people’s health were quickly identified, were not consistently adhered to. Staff did not have information available so they would know when to escalate concerns.Staff and management did not always work within the principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA). Mental capacity assessments were not consistently completed and those that had been completed were not decision specific.Recruitment processes had not been followed to help ensure staff were suitable to work in the care sector.There was no registered manager, and a manager had recently left the service. However, satisfactory governance arrangements had been put in place to provide effective oversight of the service. The provider was pro-actively seeking to recruit a new manager.New auditing systems had been developed and were being implemented to help drive improvements and ensure and gaps or shortfalls were promptly highlighted.
