Mapleford Nursing home

This residential care home provides personal care and nursing care for up to 54 older people, younger adults, and people with physical disabilities, sensory impairment, mental health needs, or dementia, across three units on two floors. At inspection, 28 people were living at the home. Staff numbers were adequate to meet people's needs, though staff felt levels could be increased. All required health and safety checks had been completed and infection control procedures were being followed. People felt safe and staff had received safeguarding training.

However, medicines were not always managed safely in line with the home's own policies. Care planning needed improvement, with people and relatives not always involved in the process and care plans requiring review for accuracy. Staff did not consistently support people to have maximum choice and control of their lives in the least restrictive way possible, and the home's policies did not always support this practice. Staff had received appropriate training for their roles, and the home had made significant improvements to its design and decoration.
