Magdalen Close Hostel

Magdalen Close Hostel in Essex is a residential care home supporting people with a learning disability, autism, and physical or long-term health conditions, with a focus on reablement alongside some long-term residents. The CQC rated the service Requires Improvement overall, finding three breaches relating to safety, dignity and governance. Care plans, risk assessments and fire safety records were often out of date or incomplete, and recruitment checks were not always in place.

Despite this, inspectors found people and relatives spoke warmly of staff, describing them as kind, familiar and reassuring, and people felt safe and settled. A newly registered manager had begun strengthening systems, though audits remained inconsistent and some activity provision was limited for those staying on site.
