Madeira Lodge

Madeira Lodge accommodates up to 48 older people requiring residential care and support with varying needs including dementia, diabetes and mental health conditions. At inspection, 45 people were living at the service. However, inspectors found significant concerns with safeguarding and risk management. Processes to protect people from abuse were not followed robustly by staff, and individual risks were not always assessed appropriately with safe measures in place to manage them. People's needs were not consistently assessed accurately or kept up to date, affecting the safety and appropriateness of their care.

Additional concerns included inadequate healthcare oversight, with medical advice not always sought in timely ways, putting people at risk of health deterioration. Staff had received mandatory training but needed further development to meet people's specific needs effectively. While people had access to food choices, their dining experience lacked dignity and positivity. Care was not consistently person-centred, and people were not always supported to maintain interests and hobbies. End-of-life care planning was also incomplete, with wishes not always documented.
