Longroyds and Pilling House Care Home

This residential care home provides personal care for up to 52 people aged 65 and over, with 30 residents at the time of inspection. Staff maintain a visible presence throughout the home with fully staffed shifts, and the provider regularly reviews people's dependency levels to ensure appropriate support. Residents and relatives felt confident that staff were suitably trained, with the provider having identified training gaps and working to address these.

However, medicines management required improvement. Morning medicines were administered late on the day of inspection, and staff were not using records effectively to monitor the effects of prescribed laxatives or determine whether continued administration was appropriate. This was addressed by management following the inspection. A recruitment check was not properly recorded, affecting the robustness of the recruitment process. Mental capacity assessments had been completed, though one person's assessments raised queries that were discussed with the management team. Staff supported people to have maximum choice and control over their lives in the least restrictive way possible, with policies and systems in place to support this practice.
