Kingsway Nursing Home

Kingsway Nursing Home, in County Durham, provides nursing care for adults with physical disabilities, mental health conditions and dementia. The CQC rated the service Requires Improvement overall. Inspectors found premises and infection control were not always safe, risk assessments lacked detail, staff supervision and recruitment records had gaps, and governance systems were not consistently effective, resulting in two breaches of regulation.

On a more positive note, medicines were managed safely and people had enough to eat and drink. Staff were described as kind and attentive, with people and relatives speaking warmly of their care. Activities did not always meet individual interests, and some people spent much of their time alone in their rooms, though people felt involved in decisions about their care.
