Highfield House

Bethel House is a residential care home on the outskirts of Whitehaven providing accommodation for up to 62 people with dementia or other mental health needs. The older property has been extensively adapted with single occupancy rooms, shared facilities and a secure garden. It offers both nursing care for up to 31 people and residential care for up to 31 people, with 60 residents at the time of inspection.

People felt safe living at the home and relatives expressed confidence in staff and management. Staff were kind and caring, developing mutually respectful relationships with residents and knowing their individual histories, likes and dislikes. Staff assessed and reviewed people's physical, mental health and social needs, providing support to maintain good nutrition and hydration. An effective safeguarding policy was in place with staff trained and confident in reporting concerns about safety and wellbeing. Risk assessments had been developed to identify and minimise potential harm during care delivery.
