Herewards House

Herewards House provides personal and nursing care for up to 27 people aged 65 and over. At inspection, the service was caring for 24 residents. However, medicines were not managed safely. Inspectors observed secondary dispensing taking place and found one person did not receive their medicines as prescribed. Self-administration of insulin did not follow safe practice guidelines. Staff demonstrated good knowledge of safeguarding procedures and knew how to report concerns about abuse. Recruitment processes were sound, with files containing appropriate safety checks.

Residents spoke positively about their care, describing staff as "kind and look after me well" and saying "I am very very lucky to be here." Inspectors observed staff interacting with people in a warm and supportive manner. The service supported people to have maximum choice and control over their lives, using the least restrictive approaches. Risks to people's care and support needs had been identified and appropriate actions were being taken to minimise them.
