George Hythe House

This residential care home accommodates up to 43 people across four separate wings, providing personal care to those aged 55 and over with physical and mental health needs including dementia. At inspection, 23 people were living at the service. Care plans provided sufficient guidance to keep people safe, and staff had received recent training with the skills to deliver safe care. The home contacted external health and social care professionals as needed to support effective care, and staffing levels were adequate.

However, inspectors identified some areas for improvement. One person did not always receive food of the correct consistency. Staff recruitment procedures did not always ensure people were of good character. Additionally, staff did not consistently wear personal protective face masks to prevent COVID-19 transmission, though other infection control procedures were followed. The home demonstrated that lessons had been learnt when things went wrong.
