Duke Street Bungalows provides accommodation and support for 15 people with learning disabilities and/or autism across three separate bungalows, each with adapted facilities. The service demonstrates thoughtful practice in supporting people's transitions and wellbeing. During the pandemic, staff used video calling to help people and families view the home and bedrooms before moving in, enabling smoother transitions to unfamiliar environments. When people required hospital admission, a designated staff member provided dedicated support throughout their stay, ensuring consistency and reducing infection risks.
Staff development and communication are prioritized through daily briefing walks and quizzes led by senior staff, which keep teams informed about infection control updates and changes to care procedures while supporting staff wellbeing. The service has also created a designated testing area with screens that allow people to see and speak with relatives during testing, ensuring those who may struggle to understand the process remain connected with family and are not disappointed by restricted visits due to test results.
