Downshaw Lodge

Downshaw Lodge is a nursing home providing personal and nursing care for up to 44 male adults, some living with dementia. The CQC found the service requires improvement overall, identifying five breaches of regulation covering person centred care, safe care and treatment, the environment, staffing and governance. Care records were not always accurate or personalised, medicines were not consistently managed safely, and systems to protect people's legal rights around liberty were not properly in place.

Inspectors found staff to be kind and caring, and people using the service were generally happy, but some looked unkempt and spent long periods sleeping with little staff engagement. The home was being managed by administrators following ownership changes, and managers acknowledged that improvements were needed, including stronger oversight to drive change.
