Broughton Lodge

Broughton Lodge is a residential care home accommodating up to 20 people with personal care needs, though 12 residents were present at inspection. The service also provides personal care to one person in their own home. The home's institutional design did not effectively meet residents' needs. Staff reported that interactions between residents frequently caused anxiety and incidents, with poor relationships between people living there. While staff managed risks through strict protocols and intervention, this approach limited opportunities for residents to develop positive, natural everyday relationships.

The environment's adaptations had not adequately considered residents' experiences or wellbeing. The service was not consistently meeting the principles expected for supporting people with learning disabilities and autistic people, particularly regarding respect, equality, dignity, choices and independence. Inspectors found the home's large, institutional style did not provide a domestic atmosphere conducive to the quality of care and support residents required.
